After a long period of stability and calm for Kirklees badgers, Spring 2009 has seen two very unpleasant incidents. In the first, in the Holme Valley, a sett has clearly been attacked. Large amounts of blood were found near the sett and there was evidence that digging had begun but had been abandoned. The most likely explanation is that a dog (probably with radio tracking collar) managed to remove a badger from the sett, and therefore the digging was no longer necessary.
In the second incident, in east Kirklees towards Wakefield, an adult badger was found hanging by rope in a tree. The police are involved.
